Dried Sunflowers Heads are a nice treat for the birds

Our 3 acre field of sunflowers???? has dried nicely with all the sunny weather we have had recently. I like to save some of the sunflower heads every year once they are dried because I like to hang them outside our kitchen window in the winter for the birds to nibble. I collected some extra this year so please feel free to stop by our farm store this week to pickup a free sunflower head for the birds to enjoy at your house.

This is the third year we have done a few acres of sunflowers and the benefits to the soil, birds, bees, insects, critters and cows are very apparent. While I was collecting some sunflower heads today I noticed a lot were already picked clean of the seeds by the birds. I think the cows will start grazing through the sunflowers in the next week or so which will be a nice treat for them.

Our farm store is open Thursday from 3-6pm, Friday from 12-5pm and Saturday from 9-2pm. Stop by to pickup some beef or chicken for your long weekend, grab a hostess gift of a jar of honey, come see our 3 new calves and be sure to remember your free sunflower head!!????
