Good intentioned to-do lists on our farm in June are almost a joke at this point. I say that with a smirk because more often than not we are dealing with some sort of hiccup that takes priority and throws our plans for the day out the window.
One of the skills I didn’t realize that was absolutely necessary on a farm is to be adaptable and a creative problem solver. No two days are ever the same and whenever you have your gameplan for the day sorted out, inevitably that means it will rain when you are ready to cut hay, the cows will bust-out when you have dinner plans, or the tractor will break when you really need it. You have to be prepared to pivot.
One hiccup in the plan I never mind changing things up is for the birth of a calf (which is ALWAYS a drop everything situation and first priority). This morning we welcomed calf #19 for 2022 to Sally. We’ve already had a few hiccups for the day and it’s not even noon, but Sally and her calf make me smile and make everything else worth it.
Our farm store is open today until 2pm. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!
