Rhonda and Her Boys

It’s no secret that we love our Rhonda cow around here. The problem with such a mellow and chill cow is that she can be rather difficult to move at times and she is usually the last cow in for the night. The boys are such great farm hands and really enjoy helping after dinner checking and moving cows…especially Rhonda. I think she enjoys seeing them too. She definitely likes to tease them and swat them with her tail!! She doesn’t even mind posing for a few pictures with them❤️

In the fall, we are pretty well done our rotational grazing for the year and instead let the cows munch larger pasture fields during the day. To keep the herd safe, we generally like to put them into a smaller area together for the night (so they aren’t as spread out) near the water trough. Most don’t mind and know the routine.

One of the other reasons we do this is because its really nice to check on each cow daily and important to make sure there are no injuries, fences knocked over, overflowing water troughs or many other unexpected hiccups. After a long day, a bit of time with the cows is something we all enjoy as a family!!
